The Milk Grotto found in Bethlehem is just a few minutes walk from the site where Jesus was believed to be born. It is considered a holy site since tradition says, Jesus, Mary and Joseph fled here when Herod slaughtered the innocent children.
People called it the Milk Grotto due to the specks of white all over the cave. It is believed that a drop of milk fell while Mary was nursing the baby Jesus. Many women unable to bear a child constantly flock the cave, scratching at the walls for some of the white powder which they believe, together with prayers, can miraculously bless them with children.
There is a Franciscan chapel built over the site.
I have seen so many photo renditions and painting of the Blessed Mother but this one located at the Milk Grotto is unique because only here can you see her nursing baby Jesus.
